- Today was the last day of my first week back at uni, and I am so tired it has reached the point where sleep is not an option and stream of consciousness typing is a go go.

- I decided in my exhaustion that until I had read some F Scott Fitzgerald I was not a well rounded human being. Now it's half past midnight and I just finished reading the entirety of the Great Gatsby and I'm feeling vicariously disillusioned with life and want cocktails

- Description of the Muse song 'Knights of Cydonia' by some magazine: "[the song] begs to be taken off on a stretcher and sprayed with liquid novocaine like a histrionic italian footballer". Best. Description. Ever.

- New icons making me disproportionately happy. Wish the pictures were real though, instead of me photoshopping Ed and Rob together and Bowie with Robert Smith leaning over his shoulder... how awesome would it be if Bowie sang with Smith? Can't stop listening to 'Wrong Number'... rearranged record collection so I can get to the damn things without turning the boxes upside down. Have too much Hoodoo Gurus. Is there such thing as too much Hoodoo Gurus? Must investigate further. I  have Run DMC on record. Fucking A. Did not realise that. Who the hell gave me that?

- Appreciating Bob Dylan through the weirdness of 'I'm Not There'. Still can't make self like Cate Blanchett. Looks creepily like Dylan, though. Wondering why the Beatles have helium voices and why there was not more Ben Whishaw... Ben with cigarette is sex. Somehow he always makes me think of consumptive Victorian poets.

- Sorry for this post? Uhm.

I love Gatsby!

:D hedonistic fatalism is my sweet sweet candy... I loved it, so much. All these delicate little character pieces all pulling together to ask what reality is and it's so perfect *sighs*

God I still have to see that movie! Cate Blanchette really does look like him though, it's amazing. The Dylan she plays is one of my favorite Dylans. Have you seen/heard the concert he does at Albert Hall in '66? It's a-mazing.

You like electro-Dylan? He's pretty cool. No, I'm afraid I haven't seen it :(

I only saw part of it and it was on some documentary of him on PBS but I could never find the whole thing :( But the CD is out: Bootleg #4 I think, Royal Albert Hall concert. Is love.

Ugh, I could not stand The Great Gatsby. I voluntarily read it for a paper in the 11th grade, and I swear I read the whole thing all the way through and still called the main character "Bill" through the entirety of the paper, that was how little it stuck with me. Blah blah run-on paragraphs, blah blah whiny girl, blah blah green light. Ick. I did finally get my hands on a copy of Dr. Faustus, however, and am eagerly looking forward to reading it if I ever have time again. :D

Did you? I quite liked it :D You're right though, the women really did get short shrift in that thing. The best female character is a compulsive liar and snob. I believe there was a line in it somewhere that went "dishonesty in a woman is something you can never blame too deeply - I was casually sorry, then forgot."

Oh, I loved I'm Not There. I like the director anyway (seriously, you have to see Superstar: the Karen Carpenter Story) and that made me appreciate him more. I really hate Cate Blanchett myself (I don't know why, I just do) and thought her voice in that was almost intolerable. Somehow, it didn't make me like the movie less. Stunt casting! < /unasked for film review >

Now it's half past midnight and I just finished reading the entirety of the Great Gatsby and I'm feeling vicariously disillusioned with life and want cocktails

ROAR JAZZ AGE ROAR! Now you're on the trolley! Fire up some Dorothy Parker and gin and you're aces. Fun fact I may have already shared about The Great Gatsby, my younger brother is/was so enamored with the book, when he had to work for Wal-mart since the pay was so good for his position and there was nothing else, to save himself a scrap of dignity, he said he twisted his name from James to Jay. I thought this was funny, understandable, and kinda feebly all at once until he said "You know, like Gatsby!" Almost makes me tolerate having him as a sibling. ;^)

It's a beautifully put together film. I think the conceit of it - or perception of conceit, anyway - is cancelled out by the way it's offered in pieces. Stunt casting? I can second that.

AND YOU ARE THE QUEEN OF THIS AGE, ARE YOU NOT? :D Your brother sounds rather awesome. If I could get my brother to consider reading Gatsby it'd be a triumph.

Hello!

You've left me a private message a few days ago. LJ won't let me answer to it directly because of privacy options on your journal.

So, about the deleted replies. I deleted them because [livejournal.com profile] inlandsis is my French account that I only use to keep up with my French FL and a few comms. Sometimes I forget that I'm logged in with it and will hop over an English comm and reply to a bunch of comments, confusing everyone.

I guess I should just have left my replies, but I have an English account already ([livejournal.com profile] chatananas) and don't want to interact with people on a same community with the French account one day, and the English one the next day :/

Sorry if I weirded you out! I guess I'm just very bad at compartmentalizing.

- Inlandsis, aka Chatananas

this is one of the weirdest, most intrusive and embarrassing message I've left in ages

Aha! That's great, actually. I was worried my account was broken. It's totally reasonable to try and keep your journals separate. Don't worry, your message is not intrusive or embarrassing at all :D thank you for replying even when idiot me didn't check the privacy settings on my journal.

Thank you again ♥
