I went to see it with my dad on fathers day, because that's a perfectly normal way to bond. My reaction? HOLY SHIT WHAT JUST HAPPENED. My dad's? "Quentin Tarantino doesn't have the intellectual sophistication to take on this subject."
We had fun arguing about it :D and I'm not being sarcastic, it was genuinely that type of awesome, malice-free very agreeable debates that lasted for hours and we were both very serious and rather pretentious and it was fun.
I'm not going to spoiler-ify, but Melanie Laurent was BADASS. QT writes some damn good roles for women. Eli Roth was FUCKING INSANE. Cristoph Waltz deserves every award in the universe ever.
I found Brad Pitt... faintly ridiculous. And to my shame I almost forgot about Michael Fassbender until he rocked up with his own stylish brand of Britishness.
I can't remember where I got it from, but someone said in or about this film that "The English are fighting this war like it's a game. The Americans are fighting it like it's fun. And the Jewish are in holy war." Looking at Pitt, Fassbender and Roth (or Schweiger or Laurent, for that matter) respectively in this film... that is such a perfect way to put it.

I know. It's like: all we see of the guy is him bashing some guy to death with a baseball bat, doing a terrible Italian accent and going magnificently batshit with a machine gun during the finale... SO WHY DO I KIND OF WANT TO JUMP HIM?!
To be fair, I would also not say no to jumping Melanie Laurent. Rawr.

on 2009-09-09 12:44 am (UTC)I concur with everything, everything you just said. I mean, I like Noel Fielding. He's practically a woman. Burly guys are just not my thing... except BANG there's Eli Roth being INSANE and sort of sexy.
Also; great name, or the greatest name? I mean, seriously. Eli. Roth.
