girlanachronism: an animated list of reason why I no longer have an appropriate icon (Default)

She came to him in a dream disguised as a bus crash.

I got a job this week (cue insane celebrating! yee hah!) which means I'll be able to buy all those lovely, lovely things that I definitely don't need and even more definitely WANT LIKE BURNING. I may single handedly save the little record store in town... I'm going to buy so much vinyl they'll feel the aftershocks in Canada. And don't ask me how that works, it's a perfectly gorgeous, expressive, and utterly useless nonsensical metaphor that doesn't really serve its purpose but I won't hear a word against it.

Apart from that, not a lot else happening, and that's the way I like it. I saw The Hangover for a second time because I'm a doormat and my friends hadn't seen it, and walked out incredibly relieved that it was still funny enough to be enjoyable the second time. I  just have such a love for Ed Helms in that, and it's not even because of the TDS connection, since he was on way before my time. I just think he's adorable. And I have such a kink for funny, nervous, mistreated characters. "She beats you!" "That was only twice, and I was out of line..." I have not yet seen HP or Bruno, and don't really mind if it stays that way. The trailers have made me book Public Enemies, Inglorious Basterds and that new Sherlock Holmes one into my near future. Jude Law and Robert Downey Jr bickering like and old married couple is love.

Some family friends are in England at the moment. The youngest is seven and emailed me to say they're in Camden and she's looking out for Noel Fielding for me, and if she sees him she'll give him my phone number. That's why I love kids :D

I find it disproportionately hilarious that the show "Supernatural" starts  with a warning containing the words 'this show may contain supernatural themes...' MAY? May contain supernatural themes? Oh, ok then, if there's only a chance I might risk it...

Oh, and it's meme time again:

Comment and I'll give you five words that remind me of you. Then, you post these five words on your journal and explain them.

From [livejournal.com profile] iamashamed:

John Oliver
I love him. Way too much. what's not to love? He's adorable, he's hilarious... cue the usual fan rant here. Actually, last week I downloaded the Bugle and was distracted while it was playing, and when I came back in the first thing I heard was Andy saying "I will suck on it, John, I'll suck on it hard". I promptly fell off my chair.

So, my new desire relating to the fabulous Ollie (apart from the everpresent longing for him to visit Australia) is to convince someone to write A Collection Of Bugle Bits Too Porny To Be Broadcast. I'd do it myself, but I suck, and this idea needs to be done justice. I also feel a faint stirring of pride, because I have a sneaking suspician I may have had a small hand in converting [livejournal.com profile] oni_butterfly  and [livejournal.com profile] sirdrakesheir  to a love of Rob/John. MY WORK HERE IS DONE.

The Daily Show
Made politics fun, made me reconsider my attitude towards the entire USA, made me aware of so many awesome, awesome people, and the love of it led me to join lj in the first place. So. Much love there.

Australia
It's my country!  Um. I'm not terribly patriotic, so I don't have much to say. I used to have my unquenchable hatred of John Howard to discuss re: my nation, but now he's gone I am left only with vaguely positive, mostly ambivalent feelings towards Kevin Rudd. Also my eternal complaint that nobody loves us, and nobody ever visits. *nudges a few comedians and bands.. they know who they are.*

I always, always wonder how non-australians see Australia. I don't have a solid perception of my own country, because it's mine, and it's...just normal. I only ever notice things when contrasted and compared with overseas, and i don't get much opportunity to do that.

Fandoms
Ah, fandoms. I move amongst them like an ADHD hustler on crack. A few earn my undying love. Most only a passing fling. They only problem with all this is that I really have more icons than I can fit (and it's a personal quirk, but I refuse to pay for more just on principle. don't ask. I'm weird about some things) so I have to switch them around all the time. Sigh.

Uni
I love it. I just love it. I love the atmosphere, I love the people, I love he unibar, I love the subjects I'm doing and I love the weird, weird things I see there. I love that I can wear a 50's vintage blue velvet coat and no one bats an eyelid. And I still have four and a half years to look forward to.
