girlanachronism: an animated list of reason why I no longer have an appropriate icon (Default)
[personal profile] girlanachronism

I got a job this week (cue insane celebrating! yee hah!) which means I'll be able to buy all those lovely, lovely things that I definitely don't need and even more definitely WANT LIKE BURNING. I may single handedly save the little record store in town... I'm going to buy so much vinyl they'll feel the aftershocks in Canada. And don't ask me how that works, it's a perfectly gorgeous, expressive, and utterly useless nonsensical metaphor that doesn't really serve its purpose but I won't hear a word against it.

Apart from that, not a lot else happening, and that's the way I like it. I saw The Hangover for a second time because I'm a doormat and my friends hadn't seen it, and walked out incredibly relieved that it was still funny enough to be enjoyable the second time. I  just have such a love for Ed Helms in that, and it's not even because of the TDS connection, since he was on way before my time. I just think he's adorable. And I have such a kink for funny, nervous, mistreated characters. "She beats you!" "That was only twice, and I was out of line..." I have not yet seen HP or Bruno, and don't really mind if it stays that way. The trailers have made me book Public Enemies, Inglorious Basterds and that new Sherlock Holmes one into my near future. Jude Law and Robert Downey Jr bickering like and old married couple is love.

Some family friends are in England at the moment. The youngest is seven and emailed me to say they're in Camden and she's looking out for Noel Fielding for me, and if she sees him she'll give him my phone number. That's why I love kids :D

I find it disproportionately hilarious that the show "Supernatural" starts  with a warning containing the words 'this show may contain supernatural themes...' MAY? May contain supernatural themes? Oh, ok then, if there's only a chance I might risk it...

Oh, and it's meme time again:

Comment and I'll give you five words that remind me of you. Then, you post these five words on your journal and explain them.

From [livejournal.com profile] iamashamed:

John Oliver
I love him. Way too much. what's not to love? He's adorable, he's hilarious... cue the usual fan rant here. Actually, last week I downloaded the Bugle and was distracted while it was playing, and when I came back in the first thing I heard was Andy saying "I will suck on it, John, I'll suck on it hard". I promptly fell off my chair.

So, my new desire relating to the fabulous Ollie (apart from the everpresent longing for him to visit Australia) is to convince someone to write A Collection Of Bugle Bits Too Porny To Be Broadcast. I'd do it myself, but I suck, and this idea needs to be done justice. I also feel a faint stirring of pride, because I have a sneaking suspician I may have had a small hand in converting [livejournal.com profile] oni_butterfly  and [livejournal.com profile] sirdrakesheir  to a love of Rob/John. MY WORK HERE IS DONE.

The Daily Show
Made politics fun, made me reconsider my attitude towards the entire USA, made me aware of so many awesome, awesome people, and the love of it led me to join lj in the first place. So. Much love there.

Australia
It's my country!  Um. I'm not terribly patriotic, so I don't have much to say. I used to have my unquenchable hatred of John Howard to discuss re: my nation, but now he's gone I am left only with vaguely positive, mostly ambivalent feelings towards Kevin Rudd. Also my eternal complaint that nobody loves us, and nobody ever visits. *nudges a few comedians and bands.. they know who they are.*

I always, always wonder how non-australians see Australia. I don't have a solid perception of my own country, because it's mine, and it's...just normal. I only ever notice things when contrasted and compared with overseas, and i don't get much opportunity to do that.

Fandoms
Ah, fandoms. I move amongst them like an ADHD hustler on crack. A few earn my undying love. Most only a passing fling. They only problem with all this is that I really have more icons than I can fit (and it's a personal quirk, but I refuse to pay for more just on principle. don't ask. I'm weird about some things) so I have to switch them around all the time. Sigh.

Uni
I love it. I just love it. I love the atmosphere, I love the people, I love he unibar, I love the subjects I'm doing and I love the weird, weird things I see there. I love that I can wear a 50's vintage blue velvet coat and no one bats an eyelid. And I still have four and a half years to look forward to.

*points to your current music* HOLY SHIT I haven't heard that song in forever *has flashbacks* Awesome.

Ahem.

I was so lame when I saw The Hangover. Every time Ed got a big laugh I had this weird sense of pride. Like "YEAH BITCHES. That's Ed FUCKING Helms, and he's MORE AWESOME THAN ALL OF YOU". IDK. But, yeah, he's so wonderful in that flick (and in general). And I'm with you on the Inglourious Basterds trailer. There's a fifteen year old Tarantino fangirl inside me who refuses to die and squeals very loudly upon seeing such things. So very much looking forward to seeing that.

[/blah blah blahing]

Congrats on your new job :D

AAARGGHH! *swears at lj* Sorry, I just had to edit this like 20 billion times because the lj cut wasn't working.

Anyway, thanks :D oh, money. It's nice to have.

The Whitlams...first band I saw live, weirdly. I was like twelve. And fell so in love with Tim. I was taken by an older cousin and still have no idea why they let me in. I WAS TWELVE!

I WAS EXACTLY THE SAME AT THE HANGOVER. Ed Helms awesomeness felt like a personal triumph. Also got perhaps a little too invested in the characted, judging by the immense hatred i felt for that bitch girlfriend.

Oh yeah... Tarantino fangirls NEVER DIE.

Oh my God your music is The Whitlams (and I should've clicked from the subject line of the post that I knew that). And in particular that song that my mate used to drive me insane with re: it's ridiculous lyrics. OMG. Total high school flashback. (I wonder what he's up to now? He was tremendously awesome and a hell of a guitarist)

*coughs*

I can tell you how the Brits see Australia (because the one thing I'm almost guaranteed to hear after the answer to "Where are you from?" (which is "I was born in NZ and grew up in Australia") is "Why would you want to move here"). The Brits glorify Australia to rather epic heights. This is primarily because of, you guessed it, Neighbours and Home and Away.

I keep telling them that Australia really isn't like that. That's just a country like everywhere else, full of just as many wankers and awesome people as anywhere else, and that it's really not that exciting.

Particularly Sydney. *coughs*

I also warn them the hell away from Canberra. (Which was hilarious when I actually met someone who had a relative who'd been there and was all "Uh, yeah, I hear it's boring?" and I just about died laughing) I try and steer them towards Melbourne and Adelaide.

So, um, yeah. The Brits glorify the Antipodes to rather insane levels. Except when then the Ashes are on, natch. :D

Haha, the Whitlams. I'm so fond of them. Crazy lyric attack! Mwah ha ha ha!

Do they really? Home and Away? Oh dear god. That's disturbing. Do they think we all have pregnancy scares every ten seconds and are constantly in flux over the ex vs the new boyfriend?

Sorry. But I really hate those shows.

Heh, Canberra. It's so crap. so you're not a fan of Sydney? Well, as an Adelaidean I appreciate you sending people our way. :D

Don't mention the Ashes. My parents are cricket fans. The overall mood is one of darkness and death.

Oh yay, a job:D Congrats<3

I really want to watch The Hangover- like really much. Same with HP ofcourse!

1. Yay for John Oliver:D WOOOT! Lately I have become pretty obsessed with him aswell;) The Bugle makes me laugh so hard, that I can't breath. So. GoodXD I love it so much. And gosh, he is adorable and funny<3

2. Hah, same with me, all of itXD

3. It sounds nice. Well, as a foreigner, there is ofcourse the (sometimes wrong) steriotypes. Like Kangaroos everywhere, koala bears, and Steve Irwin. LOL. But my grandad has actually been there!:D I I'm jealous, because I have always wanted to go there:) I think it's a beautuful country.

4. LOLZXD Aaaah, yeah. The icon problem-_- You are not weird. It's annoying<3 fandom rocks:)

5. It sounds like so much fun:D

Sleep tight<3

Thanks! Yeah, everyone loves John Oliver. He is just too awesome. Well, there certainly aren't koalas and kangaroos everywhere, but if you drive out into the country a little you'll see bazillions of wallabies. If you're in the NT there are kangaroos around. And in the drought sometimes you'll get koalas climbing into your yard to drink out of the birdbath, if you live in the hills.

You should totally see the Hangover. Trust me :D

Congrats on the job!!! =D

I totally get what you mean about The Hangover. It was a big crowd in the cinema so when they all fell about laughing over Ed I was a ball of squee. Holy shit that man is so adorable I can't contain myself. *snugs him*

and when I came back in the first thing I heard was Andy saying "I will suck on it, John, I'll suck on it hard". I promptly fell off my chair.

OMG I KNOOOOOOW. Would those two just STOP IT with their unresolved gayness because it makes me all kinds of mushy and happy. I'm still ranting on about John singing Bon Jovi songs to Andy on YITA because Andy was a huge Bon Jovi fan as a kid and he was whining they don't sing duets SO OBVIOUSLY JOHN WAS SHOWING HIS LOVE FOR HIM IN A SUBTLE AND YET AWESOME WAY. *nods likes a crazed fangirl*

And Dudette (mind if I call you Dudette?) I am so working on that Edited Bugle fic because it makes me smile. I'll try to do more this weekend and send you what I've done, kay? Kay.

Oh OH! And Andy was getting Paul to talk about being gay (or as Andy called it, playing county cricket for Homossex) on YITA this week and I was extremely happy for obvious reasons. =3

...That comment got away from me. I shall retreat.

I'm going to make a badge with Dudette on it and wear it always. o.O

It's so sad, but I kinda felt Ed Helms hilariousness to be a personal triumph. TDS alumni are mine, all mine, and I'm proud when my babies do well.

Allow me to join you in crazy bugle fangirling! CLEARLY THEIR LOVE IS EPIC. THIS MUST BE EXPLORED. I cannot believe you're doing that edited bugle fic...I love you. I love you so much. I may need to go lie down for a little.

I need to get my hands on YITA. All attempts so far have been foiled by country-specific BBC restrictions or my failtastic computer rejecting downloads. Need it so bad. Which episodes are the ones you're talking about?

I can't wait to see that Sherlock Holmes movie. The ass-kicking Chuck Norris Holmes looked a little over the top, and I'm not 100% sure about the casting, but I think there might be Holmes/Watson vibes and I can't wait to see it.

ETA: Congrats on the new job!!

OTT? Surely not... :D The casting is certainly interesting, but Jude law and Robert Downey Jr flirting? C'mon. Who could say no?

Posted by [identity profile] fourleftxaviers.livejournal.com
Oh, someone always has to complain. I've seen doubts voiced about them potentially destroying everything beloved and wonderful about Holmes, by making him too tough or whatever. Personally though, it seems like a concern secondary to the pretty and the flirting with Jude Law, as you say.

By the way, I utterly love your icon.

Oh, hi, so, I suck. I spent all day doing...stuff...which I may explain to you later if you ask nicely, and did not get to the brainstorming at all. I read your ideas and I adore them and you, and I will make my brain work tomorrow because it's certainly not doing anything of the sort right now.

Oh hey, no worries. There's no rush. I'm glad you liked my late night mess of ideas. Give your brain a break, sit back, I insist. And OH YOUR ICON. The cute. ♥

Anyway, this is me...asking nicely... *does big puppy Pavel eyes* I'm a curious creature, after all.

♥ Obviously I did not use my brain at all today either so you should feel completely morally obligated to smack me.

This icon kills me every time, yes, omg.

I'll explain the things in email. They are too ridic to be said in public. XD

Awww honey stop apologising, we're hardly working to a deadline here :D you take as long as you want.

Though my obsessive curiosity has me bouncing as I await the email. If it can be described as ridiculous I want to hear it.
